Carol Janice Briney

Havana – Carol Janice Briney, 85, of Havana, passed away at 9:15 AM on Monday, October 1, 2018 at her residence. She was born on June 30, 1933 in Ray, IL to Guy and Grace (Potter) Curtis. She married James Briney on June 29, 1952 in Rushville, IL, he preceded her in death on October 9, 1995.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, James Curtis Briney; three brothers, Lyle Edward Curtis, William Eugene “Gene” Curtis, and Donald Curtis; and five sisters, Lura Tomlinson, Leona Ford, Marjorie Sayer, Madeline Odgen, and Melba Phillips.

Surviving are three children, Janice Briney of Havana, Jeri (Lloyd “Tink”) Vaughn of Havana, and Jay (Robyn) Briney of Havana; four grandchildren, Jason Briney of Joliet, IL, Jennifer Briney Hole of Cape Coral, FL, Katie Briney Atwater of Davenport, IA, and Brittany Briney Bryant of Havana; and three great-grandchildren, Jillian and Juliana Briney and Aubri Bryant.

Carol worked as a post master at Ray Post Office in the 1970’s until they closed. She loved animals and her grandchildren.

Burial will be held at a later date at Phillips Cemetery in Oakland Township. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to Mason County Pets without Parents. To make online condolences you may go to www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
