Leona Mae Runyon

Leona Mae Runyon, 96 of Peoria, formerly of Yates City, passed away at 12:01 AM on Monday, November 11, 2019 at her daughter’s residence. Leona was born on August 25, 1923 in Maquon, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Hilma (Cowman) Donaldson. She married Charles Robert “Bob” Runyon on August 22, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1994.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, John and Lyle; two sisters, Elaine and Pauline, and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving is one daughter Sue Runyon of Peoria, many nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Agnes Snyder.

Leona loved being a farm wife and helping Bob with the farm chores. She loved taking care of the yard, planting flowers, raising chickens, cooking and baking, caring for her family, and her life on the farm. She sold eggs, cream, and some of her delicious pies. In the later years while living at St. Francis Woods assisted living, Leona made many new friends and enjoyed the many activities especially bingo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elmwood and Illinois Farm Bureau.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, where visitation will be Thursday, November, 14, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Rev. Walter Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Brunswick Cemetery in rural Trivoli. Memorials can be made to St. Francis Woods assisted living.     I sure missed your mom after she left the farm. She was a wonderful lady and a good neighbor . Mary and I are so sorry to hear of her passing. I enjoyed watching the pictures in her tribute.
