Wilfred A. Wertz

Pekin – Wilfred A. Wertz, 86, of Pekin, IL, passed away at 5:20 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton, IL. He was born in Pekin, IL, on August 14, 1932 to Lewie E. and Catherine (Counour) Wertz. He married Evelyn Louise Hodgkins, she preceded him in death on September 14, 2004.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; one daughter, Denise Fay Lathrop; three brothers, Edward, Eugene, and Robert Wertz.

Surviving are three children, Gene (Debra) Wertz of Pekin, IL, Donita K. (Robert) Ritchey of Arkansas, and William Dean Wertz of Pekin, IL; three brothers, Harold, Gerald, and Don Wertz; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilfred worked at Corn Products in Pekin, IL and was a used car dealer for 46 years.

Per Wilfred’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association. To leave online condolences please visit www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com

    Comment: Sorry to hear about Wilfred. I was related to him through his brother, Gene, his oldest brother. I was Gene’s second wife, Joyce.

    Wilfred was the dad’s closest brother and the one of the first childhood friends my dad had. Parents were Louis (who called himself Lewie) and Pansy C and brothers were Carroll, Eugene, and Robert proceeding in death. He seemed to love life without a care in the world and loved to chat and have fun with his family and friends. Loved listening to the stories of long ago back when in Normandale and Pekin of my uncle and dad together. Most stories I ever heard of then.
